Richmond House Extension & Alteration

Richmond Private House Alteration, Extension and Full Refurbishment

The Project

This beautiful 1920’s family home in Richmond was altered, extended and fully refurbished to create a modern and desirable home.

The Design Response

We obtained planning permission for part demolition of an existing single storey side rear extension and the erection of a new single storey rear extension across the full width of the house to form a new kitchen, dining, utility room and living area. The application also proposed to alter the rear patio to improve access to the garden, to change some of the ground floor side windows and openings and to alter the front boundary wall.

The new rear elevation, offered the greatest scope for improvement. The proposed rear extension was sensitively designed away from each side boundary to minimise any physical or visual impact on neighbouring properties. The structural glass extension over the dining area is smaller in size so not to affect the neighbour. The side elevation of the dining area extension is also finished in obscure fixed glass panels to respect privacy. Similarly, the living area extension concentrates views towards the rear garden, therefore respecting the privacy of the neighbour.

The rear patio terrace has been designed to finish level with the internal ground floor level to improve access and the visual relationship between inside and out.
